Question: Why do you like or unlike American manner?

Answer: Generally, I like the way which American show their manner. I think American manner has been present in our daily life. For example, say "Hi" and smile to everyone even you don't know them; open the door and hold it for people behind you; etc. This is a symbol means American is a developed country. People won't think about manner if they don't have food to eat and no place to live. On the other hand, American manner also leave distance between people. According to my HS experience, it is easy to be friend with someone, but it is hard to be soul friend with someone. You can do tons of fun things with friends, but you may not say one thing from your mind with you friends. These are the reasons why I like and unlike Amerian manner.

Theme: Costume

In America, most people have costumes in their house. I think it is a custom in Western culture. I have wore costume once in High School during Halloween. It is a very fun experience. At first, I don't really know what is Halloween and why I should wore costume. Some of my friend explained it to me and put some weird stuff on me. The cloth is like a black sheet with some red color. Hopefully, the red dots looks like blood. They also put some very white foundation on my face, and black eye shadows all over my eyes. When I faced myself on a mirror, I thought it is really ugly. Then, we went out to hallway and took textbooks out of locker. Then, a bunch of ghosts went to classroom together. It is very easy to recognize you under make-up and costumes. However, I think it is one of the most remarkable experience in HS and I will carry this interesting memory though my whole life.

Theme: Easter Holiday

I don't think I have a lot of observations for Easter Holiday. Since we don't have Easter Holiday in China, I knew this is a holiday until I came to US. For me, Easter Holiday means Easter eggs, Easter bunny, Easter lily, one of Christians' holiday, and a Friday off. I think this holiday is from Holy Bible which indicates the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus died on Friday and resurrected on Sunday. So, every year the Sunday after March 21 or after a full moon is Easter Holiday. In my opinion, the reason why Easter is significant to Americans is America is country have more than a half of people believe in Jesus Chris and read Holy Bible everyday. So, the resurrection Sunday for Americans is a evidence to prove Jesus is Sun of God. This is very important for their belief.

Fifth Diary

Topic: Americans are very interested in self-improvement.

Details: Some people said America like a melting pot. Some people said America like a salad bowl. Recently, mosaic is another work to describe America. I like the last one because these three describing words show a self-improvement for Americans. The beginning of America is a melting pot; white and black people work together to build the new nation. After a while, America became a salad bowl; existing of slavery led the civil war; segregation and unfair treatment led the civil rights movement. However, in 21 century, Americans like a mosaic, people with all skin color is working hard and making tons of contributions to the country. So, I believe Americans are very interested in self-improvement and they really made a huge self-improvement in this 300 hundred year.

Fourth Diary

Question: What observations did you make in the movie that depicts the unequal treatment of African Americans?

Answer: In the movie which we watched on last Wednesday, I made couple observations that depict the unequal treatment of Africa Americans. First of all, the theme of the movie is talking about school bus. White kids can take school bus but black kids can not. Then, compared their school utilities, we can easily see white kids have a much better environment to study but black kids do not. We can also see tons of differences between white and black people. e.g. their jobs, houses, clothing, church, etc.
